The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has proposed a blockchain solution to improve air traffic control networks. A blockchain-powered infrastructure for air traffic management will help provide additional security, authentication, and privacy. The current radar-based air traffic service providers only preserve privacy for military and corporate operations by procedurally preventing public release of selected flight plans, position, and state data. The Aviation Blockchain Infrastructure (ABI) prototype uses blockchain to minimize potential security risks from Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) systems mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration by 2020.
