Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) has announced its plan to exit the 5G smartphone modem business. The announcement came just after Apple and Qualcomm said they have settled their royalty dispute. In recent years, Apple has shifted to Intel’s modem chips for newer iPhone models from previously using Qualcomm’s wireless modem chips for the iPhones. Intel does not intend to launch 5G modem products for smartphones, including those planned for launches in 2020.
