Royal Dutch Shell Plc announced Tuesday that it plans to leave the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) in 2020. The AFPM is a leading U.S. refining lobby with 300 U.S. and international members. Shell has mentioned a disagreement on climate policies with AFPM, which stemmed from the first review of its association with 19 key industry groups to increase transparency and show investors it is in line with the 2015 Paris climate agreement’s goals of limiting global warming. Shell has disagreed with AFPM on a number of issues including AFPM’s opposition to a price on carbon and action on low-carbon technologies, and regulation over the use of renewable fuels.
