BME USA, a unit of South Africa-based explosives leader BME, recently announced the award of a contract by Usibelli Coal Mine (UCM) in Alaska to supply explosive products and accessories. The initial contract has been set for one year, with an option to extend for an additional two years. Operational since 1973, UCM is the only coal mine in the state and produces between 1.2 and 2 million tons of coal per year. In addition to Alaska, BME has also supplied shipments of its AXXIS detonators to customers in Atlanta and Texas. To further expand its operations in North America, BME plans to establish and develop a distribution network as well as introduce new BME products and services to customers across the mining, quarrying and construction markets.
