Goldman Sachs fires back after Malaysia charges bank in 1MDB probe

Goldman Sachs fired back that the previous Malaysian government had lied to the investment bank.

Goldman Sachs has come under investigation for corruption and money laundering. Malaysia has filed criminal charges against Goldman Sachs and two of the bank’s former employees in relation to sovereign wealth fund, 1 Malaysia Development Bhd, or 1MDB. These criminal charges stem from the commission and abetment of false and misleading statements by all the accused. More specifically in order to dishonestly embezzle $2.7 billion from the proceeds of three bonds issued by subsidiaries of 1MDB. These bonds were arranged and underwritten by Goldman Sachs and had a total face value of $6.5 billion.
