U.S. Durable Goods Orders Jump 1.2% In December But Miss Estimates

The U.S. Commerce Department reported an increase of 1.2% (vs. consensus of 1.5%) in orders of durable goods for the month of December. This increase was driven by growth in transportation equipment orders by 3.3%. Excluding transportation equipment, durable goods orders was up by 0.1%. The shipments of durable goods grew by 0.8%. Orders for non-defense aircraft and parts surged 28.4%. Orders for non-defense capital goods excluding aircraft fell by 0.7%.
