American Express (NYSE: AXP) has filed for a patent with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) related to a blockchain-based system that can match the images of a receipt with stored records. The patent is named “Linking digital images with related records.” The system offers a new method to receive, record and transmit images of receipts. The blockchain-based system utilizes optical character recognition on the image, allowing a mobile device user to match portions of the character string with stored records, display potential matches for the image, and the user may select the record which matches the image. This is the second patent related to blobkchain that the Company has applied to this year. Back in July, Amex’ travel unit filed another patent for a blockchain-based system to automate proof-of-payments.
