Amazon.com (AMZN) has abandoned its plans for building a new headquarters in New York. This decision comes amid opposition from politicians offering huge subsidies to the Company. The New York neighborhood of Long Island City was one of two locations that Amazon selected for its second headquarters last year. The Company had committed that the new headquarter would create 25,000 new jobs in exchange for nearly $3 billion in state and city incentives – which provoked some in the community.
