In December 2018, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) hired Soonho Ahn as its new global head of battery development to help lead its battery initiatives. Soonho Ahn most previously worked with Samsung as Senior Vice President since 2015 and led the development of lithium battery packs and worked on next-generation battery technology. With the hiring of a Samsung SDI executive, it is clear that Apple is trying to reduce its dependency on third-party/rival components.
