Facebook has partnered with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to create an independent AI ethics research center. Facebook has granted the university $7.5 million in funding over five years to back the exploration of issues affecting Artificial Intelligence (AI). The grant will help advance the growing field of ethical research on new technology and will explore fundamental issues affecting the use and impact of AI. TUM is one of the world’s top universities for AI research. This grant will support Germany in creating ethical frameworks for AI, such as the government-led initiative to set ethical guidelines for autonomous driving. Additionally, Facebook will support the university by providing an industry perspective on research proposals.
