Following the merger with Randgold Resources last month, Barrick Gold changed its ticker to GOLD on the New York Stock Exchange Wednesday while retaining the ABX symbol on the Toronto Stock Exchange. This merger created the world’s largest gold miner deal with a market cap of US$23.75 billion at the open on January 2nd. Amid buoyant gold prices, the deal could spur more M&A activity within the mining sector in 2019.
