A recent decision by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will allow proposed exploratory mining northeast of Mount St. Helens. This would ultimately allow drilling for copper and gold near the historic volcano. A company that could immediately benefit is Ascot USA, which could be awarded two hard-rock prospecting permits within the Gifford Pinchot National Forest near the headwaters of the Green River. Ascot plans to drill up to 63 roadside exploration holes to look for copper, silver, gold, and molybdenum on a mining claim at Goat Mountain.
